DUTCH KIDNEY TRANSPLANT STUDY GROUP

ABOUT THE DKTSG

In 2017 the Dutch Kidney Transplant Study Group (DKTSG) was founded to unite surgical-oriented kidney transplant research in the Netherlands. The primary focus of the DKTSG is to function as a platform for high quality clinical and pre-clinical research aimed at kidney donation and transplantation, in order to optimize healthcare and outcomes of kidney donors and recipients. To reach this goal, proper fundamental and clinical research is required with large cohorts. After a pilot phase between the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) and the Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam (EMC), all Dutch university medical centers joined this initiative in 2018.

At the moment, the DKTSG functions with a daily board and several members from all university medical centers. The founders of the DKTSG are still in the daily board, however, the organisation strives towards a rotating presidency and board to share commitment and responsibility.

The DKTSG is financed in total by self-generated funds. By means of investing in different projects, the organisation hopes to grow towards joint grant applications and in the end a more permanent way of funding.

The DKTSG has started as a small collaboration between 2 transplant centers and enthusiastic surgeons. To get to a more sustainable and succesful (inter)national collaboration, the board has described its future goals in the "Mission and Vision" document below.  (at the moment only in Dutch)
